Beargrass or also known as Yuca agustifolia. Also known as soapweed yuca. There is another desert beargrass by the name of sacquista(sp?). I’ll try to find that one also.
The other scientific name for beargrass is Nolina microcarpa. This species is pretty common in the high desert grasslands of Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas. Its’ leaves are more supple than soapweed yucca and it is also used to make baskets, etc.
