What appears to be a first in eastern New Mexico is about to happen. Quay and Curry Counties have been declared federal disaster areas due to the recent tornados and I don’t think that has ever happened before. We have had tornados, blizzards and severe grass fires before so we are familiar with disasters but never has FEMA set up shop and given out assistance to individuals in our area of the state. I’m sure the affected people will welcome the help.
FEMA has set up in New Mexico before though to help individuals. The first time was in Los Alamos and was due to the Los Alamos fires that were set as a control measure by US Park Service personnel and got out of control. Fun and games in the Jemez Mountains! Then in 2006 there was a lot of flooding that happened in Dona Ana and Otero counties. Now we had the recent tornados in which one person from Clovis lost their life.
Let’s hope for the sake of all the residents of New Mexico that we go a while without a severe disaster. This is the Land of Enchantment after all!

Nice! Thanks!
Thanks Ron.
