Our Veterans

I just read something very disturbing on the American legion web site. Here is their web address: http://www.legion.org/homepage.php . According to them President Obama plans to have our veterans’ private insurance pay for their service related injuries and disabilities. There is a full account of it by the individuals that were in the meeting recently with the President.

You know, a hundred or so years ago in this country and most other countries one could see disabled veterans begging on the streets because they were not able to work. We turned that corner in a very good way when after WWII we helped our veterans with disability payments, education and housing with the G I Bill of Rights. If the President gets his way who will hire a veteran? The insurance will be unaffordable. What insurance companies will insure potential veterans? None. Why would any young person volunteer for the service if they knew that they would have to bear the costs of their wounds and disabilities? Also, stop and think. Have you ever read your insurance contract? All I have ever seen have exclusions for damages sustained in war!

This is the way society treated their veterans a hundred years ago. Is this what we have come to now in this country?I hope not. I contacted my senators and my representative about this. Please contact yours. If this is stopped it will have to be in Congress.
