Various Blogging and CMS Programs

Trying Out Lots of Applications!

I have decided to try out different blogging platforms and CMS systems and it has been a real experience! I tried out an alternative blogging platform to WordPress called Serendipity. It is not very well developed and the documentation is quite sparse. I do have to admit that working with WordPress has spoiled the heck out of me because it is a very mature and well documented program. Anyway, I junked Serendipity when it became so difficult to find answers that it wasn’t worth the effort.

Then, I said why not look at some CMS platforms. So I did. I have tried and junked Silverstripe, Concrete 5 and Modx. Again the new user support just wasn’t there. Concrete 5 really looked promising but just isn’t ready for me anyway. I am surprised that these programs are so hard to use! If they are that hard for me, and I know html, css and can at least interpret a little php, what must they be like for a rank beginner.

So, now I am experimenting with Joomla and the reason is that the documentation seems to be there for new users. I suspect it will be a steep learning curve but I hope it’s worth it. I will be posting on my efforts.

For anyone out there that is just starting blogging just use WordPress. It is by far the best but I still have to experiment.
