Introduction

New Mexico is called a land of contrasts for a good reason. What ever your favorite topography is there is a good chance you will find it here; from alpine to desert and everything in between.

There are a great variety of cultures represented as well; from the ancient Pueblo people to the newest immigrants from Latin America and Asia. Here one can find people engaged in a basic rural lifestyle and others working in the most modern high tech industries and all that in a 100 mile radius.

In wealth and poverty there are wide extremes as well; from the multi million dollar part-time homes of the movie and media elites that move here with their, in my opinion, self indulgent lifestyles, and many times their drug habits, to some of the poorest counties in America where so much of their land has been stolen by the Federal Government that making a decent living outside of working for the schools or some branch of government is not really an option so, many times the most attractive thing to engage in is the drug trade with all its attendant violence and corruption of the culture.

New Mexico is an ancient, wild and beautiful land and for most of us that are native to the state there is really no other place to live. Every where else is exile.
