Okay crew, it’s a new year and I better get something down here even if it’s brief, of no importance and no one will see it. On to it! Oh, I did get a better weather widget on the right sidebar from accuweather.com.

I had studiously avoided watching the Republican primary debates because there was no use to do so. They can run a yellow dog and I still won’t vote for Obama. That, my friends, is a turn around on the old Democrat saying. So, why worry about wasting my time watching something that I don’t care about. Well, last night and this morning too I took the plunge. Watched both debates. They were a pleasant surprise and the candidates came off better than I suspected.

Three comments though. Rick Perry and John Huntsman are not ready for prime time. Both need to drop out and narrow the field. Santorum was not nearly as much of a winer as I have seen him act before. And finally, the ABC bunch that moderated last night and NBC’s Gregory fellow that moderated this morning fulfilled their obligations as Democrat Party operatives. But what else would one expect from America’s modern day Pravda and Izvestia.

Okay, time to practice my fiddle.

It’s Been A Long Hot Summer Already

June was a beastly month with lots of days in the 100′s and no rain. So far July has been better but still hardly any rain. We did get a couple 100ths the other night but it was gone by morning. It has been clouding up in the afternoon the last few days and it has rained in a few places around the area so maybe it will break loose.

In the meantime there have been some big grass fires in the area. 25,000 acres burned in Quay and Curry Counties, over 10,000 acres burned in Harding County and an additional 11,000 acres burned in Harding – Quay – Union Counties.

I have seen it be very hot in June and then turn loose in the middle to end of July and get cooler and rain. Let’s hope because lots of the ranchers are having to consider selling off their herds because of nothing for the cattle to eat.

Cold!

Wow is it cold! 29 degrees. This is the first really hard freeze we have had this fall. It won’t last according to the weather report. We are supposed to be in the 60′s tomorrow and even get into the high 70′s later in the week. That sounds better. I am NOT ready for a bunch of cold weather right now and this is quite early in the year for it to be so cold. The last time it got so cold this early was in 1991. We had just moved into the house that I grew up in and it got down to 2 degrees on the 2nd of October and I found out that the gas line was not connected to the heater. Thank God we had a fireplace! I had to run a new gas line around to the other side of the house after it warmed up. Such is life in the country.

The problem with having and maintaining a blog is that the owner needs to actually maintain it and that’s where the rub comes in. Work is involved as well as a continuing need to maintain enthusiasm. Well, now you know my problem. I have been distracted by doing other things and haven’t gotten into maintaining my own blog. Reading other people’s blogs is so much more interesting! But, if I want a decent blog I need to get into it once on a while.

What prompted this episode of concern for my blog is that I went to the weather widget on the upper right of the home page and clicked to see what the extended forecast will be. No luck! All I got was a 404. So, there is a problem that needs to be fixed. Obviously!

So, I have decided to turn over a new, or old, leaf and keep this thing a little more current. We’ll see what happens.

Quiet For A While

Since I am going to be out of pocket for a while I guess the site will be pretty dead, not that it hasn’t been for a month already. Oh well, things come and go. About the only thing I have to add here is that we have been abnormally warm here in northeast New Mexico with daytime temps in the 80′s. This is due to a big high pressure ridge over the plains. I still see signs that we will have a cold winter but others say we will be warmer than normal. We’ll see.

Been another month since posting but I have been busy doing a bunch of other things. Will finish the series on corruption at the BIA in a few days.

I know I haven’t written anything here for a while but stuff is coming. I want to write about the Native American Trust scandal that has been in the federal court system for years now but it appears that it might be on the way to being resolved. It involves billions of dollars of stolen land, resources and fees, all stolen from the Indians with the connivance of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
