There is an ongoing conversation in the media now about whether the so-called “old media”, meaning left wing organizations such as TV nightly news, newspapers and news magazines will be able to survive in this new media age of the internet and 24 hour cable news. Some are saying that the “news” is dead but here is my take on it.

The news is not dead and never will be. Even in the old Soviet Union news traveled by samizdat and most people knew that whatever Pravda and Izvestia printed was a lie. Thus the saying, “In the Truth there is no news, and in the News there is no truth”. (If you don’t know what the quote means do some research.)

So, the real problem that ABC, CBS, NBC and the rest of the left wing press has is that I, along with lots of others, no longer believe that they are telling us the truth. They served as constant cheerleaders to the Obama campaign and constant denigrators of the Bush administration. They have become as Pravda and Izvestia, media organs of the state. Lots of Americans simply don’t watch their news programs or read their papers and that means that there are fewer eyes on the commercials they run and their corporate sponsors know that. Is it any wonder that the Obama administration wants to prop them up with federal money and tax the new media to do it?

If the old media wants to survive they might consider upgrading their product which in this day and time means telling the truth and avoiding left wing partisan slants. A little fairness would go a long way.

Most of us now know who Joe Stack was after learning of his flying his airplane into the IRS office in Texas. The Main Stream Media (MSM) has attempted to make him into a Tea Party type guy. Good try by the leftist media taking their orders from the Obama administration but no soap.

After reading his “manifesto” on the SmokingGun, he seemed to me to be a self-centered, self-pitying leftist. He, after all, made a positive statement about communism and a negative statement about capitalism. The proof of his true political leanings is the frantic scrambling the MSM did to try and pin the label of “tea party” on him. They knew who he was and attempted to switch his political identity. Like most of their attacks on the majority of us regular citizens, it failed.

My advice to the MSM is keep on keeping on. Your lying attempts to destroy the Tea Party movement only make it stronger. Do you wonder why so many of us don’t watch your nightly news shows and read your newspapers anymore?? And I guess my next question is, why do you hate those of us that want and work for good, efficient, honest, fiscally conservative and constitutional government?

John Stephenson wrote an excellent article on Pajamas Media and the role of the ACLU in getting Eric Holder to hold Khalid Mohammed’s terrorist trial in a civilian court in New York instead of trying him in a military tribunal and here is what I feel is the most important thing he said, “with an $8.5 million budget to defend terrorists currently held at Guantanamo.”

Since “follow the money” is the first rule of politics, that $8.5 million might be important especially in the light of the millions more to come and all of it from taxpayers’ pockets. How much of that will ultimately end back up as campaign contributions to Democrat PAC’s from the ACLU and its members? Foolish question?

The ACLU and fellow travelers get to push their socialist agenda, Democrat politicians get campaign contributions they don’t have to stump for and all of it on the taxpayers’ dime. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too!

Oh, one more silly little question, “who gets to pay for the added security for the trial and, just in case the worst happens, who gets to pay for the damage from another Islamic terrorist attack connected with the trial”? Oh silly me, I should have known! It’s the taxpayers again!

“Honor the Trust Responsibility: Barack Obama recognizes that honoring the government-to-government relationship requires fulfillment of the United States’ trust responsibility to tribes and individual Indians. More specifically, Obama is committed to meaningful reform of the broken system that manages and administers the trust lands and other trust assets belonging to tribes and individual Indians. Further, he is committed to resolving equitably with both tribes and individual Indians litigation resulting from the past failures in the administration and accounting of their trust assets.”

The above quote is from my.barackobama.com/page/content/firstamissues#sovereignty

If the president is really serious about keeping that promise he could very well start by settling the Cobell vs. Salazar case that is still in its agonizing 13 year journey through the federal court system. Despite statements that he wanted to settle the case President Obama’s new secretary of the interior, Ken Salazar, is now backtracking and saying that he has to wait for the outcome of the court of appeals hearing scheduled in May. What a bunch of baloney! If the administration wanted to settle it could do so tomorrow by contacting the plaintiff and arriving at an agreement. A radical change for the better in how the government deals with Native Americans would be a good thing and a good way to start would be for the administration to do the right thing in this case. I don’t think it will happen though but there is still hope.

Two more last comments. This administration and previous administrations have absolutely no problem with giving away billions to other countries, much of which goes into the hands of corrupt and greedy officials with no sense of social conscience for their own people. Billions more have been funneled to foreign banks by means of the recent bailouts. Is it so hard to do the right thing by the remnants of the First Nations of this country?? And, considering the treatment given to the Arapahos and the Cheyennes by the State of Colorado, it would be nice if Secretary Salazar, who is a former Senator from Colorado, could make a step towards wiping that blot out by sitting down and coming to an equitable agreement with the plaintiff.

I read a good piece on Politico on the current status of Washington lobbyists. I added a comment to the ensuing discussion. Here is the article:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/18327.html

And below is my comment:

“Don’t worry. The lobbyists will be back in favor in a little while. Money and politicians are like 2 magnets that attract each other. As long as we have a majority of our politicians that are willing to take bribes, sorry I meant to say campaign contributions, from the big money guys nothing will change. Congress can write more and more regulations but the loopholes they insert are the killers. And even if they do write watertight laws who will watch the watchers. You see, someone has to enforce the laws and white collar criminals need to get something more than a slap on the wrist. But don’t hold your breath. Will our elected officials bite the hand that feeds them? I think the answer is self evident.

The real problem, and we don’t want to admit it, is that our government is a reflection of ourselves, our society. We are the ones that pull the voting levers for these people and keep electing them year after year. If they are corrupt, and I believe many are, we are telling them that what they are doing to us is okay! What does that say about us as an electorate? Maybe our elected officials really do represent us in ways we haven’t thought about.

Two sayings to ponder over:

Teddy Roosevelt said, “when they call the roll in the Senate half answer ‘present’ and the other half answer ‘not guilty’.”

Otto von Bismark said, “a people get the government they deserve.”

Those two sayings are linked these days in ways we, as a society, don’t really want to understand.

This isn’t going to change until the vast majority of the members of Congress are voted out of office. And I mean members of both parties. But I sure am not holding my breath.

Atlas needs to shrug.”

“When a man believes that any stick will do, he at once picks up a boomerang.” – G.K. Chesterton

(By the way, if you don’t understand what Chesterton said there is nothing I can do for you)

I came across this quote from the English writer, essayist and playwright in a column by Nick Cohen in the online version of the Guardian, a British newspaper. At once I realized he had hit the bulls-eye in his analysis of the Left’s visceral reaction to McCain’s picking of Sarah Palin to be his running mate. The spewing out of hate and venom was stunning. The lie that her downs syndrome baby was not hers but her daughter’s was totally breathtaking in its audacity. The Obama campaign wisely condemned it right out of the box. They understand political boomerangs. Can they control their operatives? Probably not.

I won’t go into all the loathsome, malicious, malevolent and sexist stuff that has the stink of fear all over it that has been excreted out of the rotten hate filled bowels of the Left concerning her. It is all over the Internet and readily available to anyone who wishes to access it.

Was I was surprised? Not at all. This what we have come to expect from political campaigns these days but I must say it is not new. All one has to do is look at American politics of the early 1800′s to get a real good idea of what political opponents are capable of. It is nearly always self-defeating. Is it going to continue? Of course, because like unthinking brutes the haters “know not what they do”. In the case of Palin they unwittingly have taken a smart, funny, capable and hardworking woman who was a relative unknown and made a folk hero out of her.

Sarah Palin is an American woman. She is not an elitist that looks down on “the masses”. She is one of us and we know her and like her. As for me I say to her, “You go girl! We love you!”

Big mistake! We, meaning the US, have now recognized Kosovo’s independence from Serbia despite the 1999 UN agreement to respect Serbia’s territorial integrity. Now the Serbs hate us and even though the ethnic Albanian, and mostly Muslim, Kosovars think we are the best right now how long will it be until they decide that we too are “infidels” and deserving of death? It won’t be long I assure you because there is a significant Al Qaida presence there. Add to that the highest unemployment rate in Europe and if that isn’t an explosive mixture I don’t know what is. The thought of the majority of the Kosovars being dependent on radical Muslim, meaning Saudi, charity is the stuff of nightmares. Can you say terrorism central right in the belly of Europe? And, now the Kosovars have their own minority. Yes the Serbs that are left there. It is only a matter of time until they start killing each other again. I don’t think Serbia will stand by and see their own submitted to genocide.

The Russians are threatening to get involved and lest we forget, Russia has gone to war several times to protect their friends in the Balkans. The latest and most disastrous was, of course, WWI when they declared war against the Austro-Hungarian Empire to protect the Serbs. There is a close relationship there between Russia and Serbia, we ignore it to our peril and we better think about involving the Russians in a potential ground war in the Balkans over a bunch of Kosovars that will turn on us anyway sooner or later. Anyone who thinks Russia isn’t a formidable enemy is living in dreamland. They now have most of the best of our technology and to nullify Europe all they have to do is turn off the supply of natural gas.

So are Americans going to die in the Balkans? The EU sure as heck won’t try to keep them apart from each other. They will stand around peeing in their pants. Who is left? I say let the Russians handle it. They have much more interest there anyway.

In the end, if we are so darned anxious to protect minorities that have been badly treated and faced with genocide we need to start right here at home. What about the Native Americans? The latest horror story that has come to light is the issue of the billions that were stolen from different tribal groups with the connivance of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Does anyone think, maybe, that would be a good place to start? I sure do. We need to try and make right our own sins first.

Our governor, Bill Richardson, has wanted universal health care in this state for a long time. He thought he would get it this year but didn’t. He found out that he just couldn’t order the legislators to do something and, snap!, it was done. I was privileged to be present in the Health and Government Affairs Committee the day that his bill, HB 62, was introduced and there was instant balking over the fact that the members had not had time to even read the bill. It was tabled and that was the beginning of the end. There did emerge a version from the House that was acceptable to most members but the Senate still saying no.

So, what is the future of universal health care insurance in New Mexico? Well the governor is probably going to call a special session to deal with it. I hope the legislature is very careful about what they do. Most of the plans going around have some cohersive feature to them. In other words if you don’t want health care insurance that’s just too bad. You will be made to pay by having your wages garnished. Now what about people, of which there are too many in New Mexico, that are trying to subsist on $10 an hour jobs or less? Can they even afford to work if they must pay out $100 or more a month for health insurance? We are talking about a LOT of workers here in this state that are in these kinds of jobs. So if the taxpayers have to subsidize them where will the money come from to do that? Raise taxes or cut programs? And cut which programs? What about illegals? Will the tax payers be forced to pay for them as well? And, is it constitutional to garnish a workers wages to force them into an insurance pool they can’t afford to be in? We have laws forcing drivers to get auto liablility insurance to reimburse others from potential harm caused by other drivers. But, can we force someone to protect themselves?

Finally, under the governor’s watch the the Retiree Health Care Authority that serves retired public sector workers and retired educators has darn near been ruined with tremendous losses in investments. Service from the Authority’s employees is close to nonexistant. Do we want to put health care insurance for the whole state in the same hands?

As many have said, we live in interesting times and this year’s election season is no exception. Who would have thought, just a few months ago, that the “presumptive Democrat nominee” would be now fighting for her political life and that the Republican front-runner was dismissed as a “also ran” with hardly any campaign cash at all. As someone said, “stranger things have happened but have we seen them?”

There is some poetic justice in the fact that Hillary Clinton, who, it appears, was promoting her own coronation, may now not even get the nomination. I say “may not get it” because it’s hard to count the Clintons out even when they are down and the real dirty tricks have yet to be played. Wait until the backroom deals start to be made amongst the mucky mucks of the Democratic Party. However, it would make me exceedingly happy to see Bill Clinton denied a third term in the White House. And, while on the subject of Bill Clinton, why did he possibly ruin her chances amongst blacks by committing the ultimate political sin of race baiting Obama? Did he really think it was necessary so therefore he was the best to be the heavy and get it done or was he trying to sabotage her campaign thinking that if she won and was a better president than he it would further deteriorate his “legacy”?

In any event, his “legacy” is pretty well tarnished since he has exposed his sordid character to the whole world once again. There is practically no loathesome action or actual crime that can’t be excused amongst the left wing in this day and age, including mass murder and genocide, so even though Bill could be excused for selling the Lincoln Bedroom, taking campaign cash from the Chinese, raping women, selling pardons, loosing his law license for lying to a grand jury and making millions off lucrative back room deals, it is meet that he discovered that acts of racism against the party faithful for political gain wasn’t to be tolerated. This time he really fell off the wall and as “they” say, all of his big media pals “couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again”.

I for one will be glad to see the Clintons with their overweening lusts for power, self-aggrandizement and especially money move off the stage of history.

More to come.
